ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING EFFECTIVENESS

Environmental testing effectiveness is being determined by the cost of testing and the benefit of getting products more reliable and durable. In the case of the life saving devices or mission success determining products there has been no doubt about the necessity of environmental testing. But with increased global competition in all areas of commercial products it has to be considered to introduce environmental testing also for mid-tech and low-tech products where development and production costs are dominating. Here very often small and medium sized enterprises are affected and these companies typically have not the know-how and the resources to manage the process of environmental design and testing. There is a challenge for the future development of design, test and evaluation strategies: fundamental research is necessary to tailor the effectiveness of environmental testing to the needs of SME's.
