The purpose of this research study is to develop and apply a systems-based methodology which constructs and represents an organization's knowledge system. This research will advance the concept of an organizational knowledge system, develop a methodology that allows the construction of a knowledge system, employ methods to graphically represent a knowledge system, and address the impact of an organization visualizing its knowledge system. The contributions of this research are on several levels. This study adds to the current literature by postulating the concept of the organizatioal knowledge system based on the theoretical underpinnings of the literature. Likewise, the research contributes to the organizational analysis methods and organizational knowledge management through the use of a computer software programs that aid in the construction and graphical representation of an organizational knowledge system. Lastly, this study adds benefit to the science of engineering management and business knowledge management by providing organizations the ability to look at their knowledge systems to determine their adequacy in current or future environments. In summary, this research will equip organizations with a real and perceptible capability to know, understand, and manage their unique organizational knowledge system which informs organizational action and decision.
