A current focus concerning the use of modeling and simulation in collaborative project engineering environments is advancing the fidelity and integration of physical-based engineering simulations. Another barrier to achieving effective virtual collaborative engineering concerns the virtual modeling and simulation of important higher-level project process mechanisms and dynamics. One critical process area requiring effective modeling and simulation is user interaction with the virtual project environment, due to the distributed, remote nature of such interaction. The author develops an initial theoretical human-centered framework for use in modeling and simulation of user interaction in future virtual collaborative environments.
