Current feature-based modeling systems fail to adequately maintainrnfeature semantics. This is partly due to inappropriate specification ofrnvalidity conditions in feature classes, but mainly due to a lack ofrneffective validity maintenance mechanisms throughout the modelingrnprocess. A critical aspect in this is feature interaction management.rnThis paper presents a new approach to the detection of featurerninteractions, which uses semantic and interaction constraints inrnfeature class specification. Validity maintenance is automaticallyrnperformed after each modeling operation by checking thesernconstraints, thus being able to detect a variety of interaction types.rnSuch interactions are then analyzed, and their causes identified andrnreported to the user.
