Creating practical design support systems is a complex designrnendeavor. We approach it with an evolutionary process, one thatrnstudies the design information flow then builds and tests informationrnmanagement support systems. Through our experiencernwith industrial partners we have evolved this process into a set ofrnmethods and tools that support these methods. We have evolvedrnan infrastructure called n-dim, that is composed of a small numberrnof building blocks that can be composed in ways that matchrnthe complexity of design contexts and work. We have developedrnthis infrastructure to be highly flexible so as to allow us to conductrnthis evolutionary process in a practical project setting.
