The Vernier permanent-magnet machine (VPM) shares the same working principle as the MG-integrated machine with the main disadvantage being its low power factor. This paper proposes a novel Vernier pseudo-direct-drive machine (VPDD) combining the benefits of the VPM and the PDD. A 2-D subdomain analytical model is derived for a quick optimization of geometrical parameters. The analytical model is validated by the finite-element method. Compared with the VPM, the VPDD has a higher torque capability with a much smaller excitation current and a significantly higher power factor.
