In-situ monitoring of the chloride content is one of the most important procedures in preventing andrncontrolling chloride-induced corrosion in reinforced concrete structures. Thus, the need of in-situ probesrnis of paramount importance for the continuous monitoring of the chloride profiles and corrosionrnprevention. These probes must present long lifetime and reliability and they must operate in a wide rangernof chloride concentration, possessing, at the same time, good detection limit.rnThe present work describes a sensor based on Ag/AgCl electrodes for in-situ monitoring of reinforcedrnconcrete structures. The work presents results obtained in laboratory experiments and field experiments.rnThe results reveal that the Ag/AgCl sensor presents very good sensitivity in a wide range of chloridernconcentrations. The sensor was tested in mortar specimens and in concrete specimens, revealing goodrnreliability. Furthermore, good agreement was found between the open circuit potential values and thernconcentration of chlorides at different cover depths.
