SIMULTANEOUS PRODUCTION OF LNG AND NGL

TECHNIP and TOTAL have recently carried out a study on large capacity LNG trains and their potential in reducing production costs. One of the main conclusions concerns the technical and commercial synergies that dual production of LNG and NGL from a single train can offer to countries such as Qatar, which contemplate fully-fledged industrial development. rnThe simultaneous production of LNG and NGL in a single train satisfies several current objectives: rn1. Availability of propane and butane for export by sea. Those markets are currently experiencing strong growth and sustained valorisation. rn2. Availability of ethane, meeting feedstock needs of ethylene productionrn3. Access to new markets requiring lean LNG. rnThere are several ways to reach these objectives, each of which can affect differently the overall efficiency of the LNG/NGL train. TECHNIP and TOTAL explored the application of an existing NGL recovery process to several industrial cases: extended extraction of C3, associated with low, moderate and extended extraction of C2. rn1. A front end NGL extraction unit located upstream of the liquefaction unit 2. A straddle type NGL extraction unit located within the LNG unit rn3. NGL extraction fully integrated within the LNG unit rnStudies were conducted on the basis of a prospective case located in Qatar, with gas from the North Dome field, using a propane pre-cooled MCR process from APCI. The results to be presented can be readily adapted to fit other processes, such as LIQUEFIN from AXENS.
