In recent years, power consumption has become one of the most critical design concerns in designing VLSI systems. The reduction of power consumption in displayers is inevitably required by the emergence of mobiles, fast systems, and et cetera. There are many reported problems associated with the response time of an LCD display, typically termed as afterimage specially when a motion picture video is being played on an LCD panel. To reduce afterimage artifacts, a new 'overdrive' method, named as Response Time Acceleration (RTA) is proposed in this paper. The proposed 'overdrive' method effectively controls truncation and quantization errors present in the conventional ones only with a few incremental gates. Furthermore the proposed 'overdrive' method provides two solutions with a shorten table memory while keeping full resolution and reducing power consumption. Test results show that the power consumption is reduced with the proposed method by 41% compared with conventional methods.
