In this work, we provide new analytical and computer simulation results for the performance of multitone (MT) and multicarrier (MC) DS-SS signaling in the presence of narrowband interference consisting of multiple tones. We investigate the tradeoff between the number of subcarriers and the per-subcarrier processing gain, for a fixed data rate and fixed bandwidth, and also compare with the conventional single-carrier (SC) system. This work fills a gap by providing comparative results among these three systems. Our results show that by virtue of the higher processing gain of the MT systems compared with the MC and SC systems, the MT system is the most robust to multiple tone interference.
