For smart antenna systems to be analyzed, designed, and implemented in a suitable way, spatial channel models are required that provide spatial statistics about the local environment such as: angle of arrival (AOA) and time of arrival (TOA) of the several multipath components. At present, there are various single bounce scattering models. The elliptical scattering model is one of these models and it is used in microcellular environments for identifying line-of-sight direction between the mobile and the base station. In this paper, a new double bounce scattering model is presented. This model provides all the statistical information required in order to identify alternative service zones, by using inscribed ellipses. In this way, if ever line-of-sight comes to be perturbed, alternative lobes at the base station site can be steered to the alternative service zones making possible to offer a seamless service. A complete mathematical analysis is presented which defines this new double bounce model. Also, a set of simulations is obtained that allows seeing how the use of this new model leads to a capacity system enhancement.
