IT-Enabled Change: A Lifecycle Approach

IT enabled business change combines two very different elements - Information Technology (IT) and Business Change. While the term 'IT project' implies an overly dependent focus on the technology part of the solution,'business change' makes it clear that the focus is on a change in the business activities of an organization which may be enabled by IT. The need is for an integrated business solution which in common with a systems methodology may be managed through a lifecycle approach. A systems solution moves through the stages of analysis,design,build,test and implementation. However,what is required for IT-enabled business change is a lifecycle that starts with the business IT alignment of goals and targeted benefits and concludes with the delivery of those benefits. This paper describes this new lifecycle and explores the relevance of the stages through a successful major change program that took place in Metaxa,the Greek subsidiary of a multinational.
