RISK ASSESSMENT FOR REEFER CONTAINERS WITH FLAMMABLE REFRIGERANTS

This study presents the annual operation profile of an average global container fleet. The profile isrnused for cycle simulations and calculation of the energy consumption and the total equivalent warmingrnimpact (TEWI) in order to compare different refrigerant options (CO_2, R32, R134a, R290, R1270). Thernresults show a promising potential for flammable refrigerants in terms of annual energy consumption savings,rnas well as reduction of TEWI and costs.rnOn the other hand, the use of flammable refrigerants requires a detailed risk assessment to understand therndifferent safety concerns for operation. The results of an operational mode risk assessment and a safetyrnconcept using flammable refrigerants are presented in the second part of this work.
