摘要

Nitrofurantoin (1-[[5-nitro-2-furanyl)methylene]amino]-2,4-imidazolinedione) is a nitrofuran-derivative antibacterial agent used in the therapy of urinary tract infections. This antimicrobial agent produces pulmonary toxicity via the redox cycling of the nitro group and its radical anion. The biotransformation can produce by four, two or one electron reductive pathways, which can to give toxic chemical species. Under anaerobic conditions 2-electron reduction of the nitro-group generally occurs, proceeding via the sequential formation of the nitroso-, hydroxylamino-and amino-compounds.
