Super-thin and lightweight LCD without glass substrates

摘要

We propose a super-thin and lightweight LCD without glass substrates, where polarizers play the role of substrates as well. Indium-tin-oxide and a-SiO_x are deposited sequentially on each polarizer. LCs are aligned on the a-SiO_x layer through the ion beam exposure. We realized a super-thin LC cell whose electro-optic characteristics are similar to that of a conventional LC cell with glass substrates.
