Objective:To explore the changes of artery elasticity in overweight subjects by wave intensity technique. Methods:A total of 135 subjects were enrolled in this study from March 2011 to October 2011 in Peking University Third Hospital. Overweight were defined by body mass index(BMI)and arterial stiffness was assessed by wave intensity(WI).Subjects with overweight(BMI≥24kg/m2,n=83)were divided into overweight group. Age,gender, risk factor and disease matched with normal weight subjects were as control group(n = 52).All of them were measured in right carotid artey by wave intensity technique. Parameters of this method were compared between the two groups. Results:compared with control group, patients in overweight group had statistically higher stiffness parameter(β)[9. 41±7.71)vs.7.71±4. 79)],pressure-strain elastic modulus(Ep)[(120.04±54. 87)vs.(93. 85±60. 52)]kPa,onepoint wave velocity(PWVβ)[(6.45±1.38)vs.(5.64±1.57)]m/s,PWVWI[(6.81±1.72)vs. (5.61±1.73)]m/s(P<0.05).Conclusion:Overweight subjects faced higher risk for artery elasticity than normal persons.
