Septomedullopitys szei sp.nov.was found from the Wuchiapingian Wutonggou Formation of Tarlong,Turpan,Xinjiang, northwestern China. The stem has a heterogeneous pith approximately 15-20 mm in diameter containing numerous straight secretory canals and parenchymatous bands.Primary xylem is endarch and helical thickenings occur on tracheids.Secondary xylem is of the Protophyllocladoxylon type.Comparisons with contemporaneous gymnosperm woods containing either solenoid pith or Protophyllocladoxyloh type secondary xylem from (sub)Angara land indicate the Tarlong stem represents a new Permian morphotaxon.Occurrence of coprolites, borings,坷phae and spindle-shaped cavities within the stem suggests well developedfungi-animal-plant interactions during Wuchiapingian times in the subangara area. The gross morphology of these cavities are very similar to the extant white-pocket rot.
