AbstractSyntheses of poly(ester‐amide)s derived from optically active amino alcohols are described. Poly(ester‐amide)s with M̄n 8,700–27,200 were obtained by the polycondensations of hydroxycarboxylic acids derived from maleic or succinic acid, and by those of dicarboxylic acids and diols derived from dicarboxylic acids and optically active amino alcohols using EDC·HCl in satisfactory yields. The radical additions of ethanethiol or mercaptoethanol to the polymers derived from maleic anhydride proceeded smoothly in satisfactory incorporation ratios (43∼98). The polymer obtained from succinic anhydride and 2‐aminoethanol showed hydrolytic degradability. The Tg of the polymer derived from leucinol showed even‐odd effect with increase of methylene chain length of dicar
