The Comanche's five-blade rotor makes a "whir" rather than the "whop-whop" of a two- or four-blade rotor. Not only is it quieter, but it blends into background noise better. By the time an enemy hears Comanche, it will be almost twice as close as today's helicopters. The main rotor causes most helicopter noise. At low speeds, the Comanche's rotor slows for an ultra-quiet "sneak mode." An advanced airfoil prevents stalling. A shroud enclosing the Fantail eliminates the noisy mixing of wakes from the main and tail rotors.
