The chemistry of compounds containing metal-boron double bonds (e.g., borylene complexes, L_nM=BX), although a relatively new field, has evolved from the stage where such systems might have been regarded merely as structural novelties to one in which their reactivity can now be exploited synthetically, in some cases in catalytic systems.
