Mastitis is one of the major threats to dairy animal health and performance and causes a high financial burden.At present,antibiotic therapy is the primary treatment for mastitis;however,due to antibiotic abuse and mismanagement,milk quality and human health are threatened by antibiotic residues.As a result,immunization therapy provides a new strategy for reducing the morbidity of this disease.γδT lymphocytescan be classified into different types,such as those that participate in innate and adaptive immune responses,pathogen invasion prevention,antigen presentation,and mucosal gatekeeping.Most importantly,γδT cells are the main type of peripheral blood lymphocytes in bovine peripheral circulation; these cells account for approximately 15-60%of all lymphocytes.Unfortunately,little is known about the roles of γδT cellsin mastitis infection.This review evaluates the features and functions of γδT cells,which may serve as a new target for mastitis therapy.
