MAJOR COKE OVEN REPAIRS WITH THRUWALL REPLACEMENTS AT US STEEL

In the last 15 years, US Steel has successfully completed over 90 thruwall replacements at the Gary and Clairton Coke Plants. The procedures used and experiences of this repair work will be discussed. This paper will focus on Gary Works 6-meter wall replacements although these replacements are also typical of those made at Clairton Works. Techniques for triple thruwall replacement will also be discussed.
